Almost everyone has heard about felonies and misdemeanors. But not everybody knows the difference between the two. Felonies are crimes that are punishable by a prison sentence in state, federal, or local prison of two years and a half years or more. If the minimum sentence is less than two and a half years, then it is not considered a felony. Therefore, convicted felons have been convicted of a crime in which they were sentenced to over two and a half years of hard time.
